Step into the shoes of a Revolutionary War soldier in this hands-on American 250th experience. Participants will “join” the Continental Army, go through soldier intake, learn musket drill instruction, and take part in historically accurate South Carolina battle reenactments.

Free event. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required.

Step into history and adventure on a guided 3.2-mile hike along the scenic Scout and Coquina Trails. As you explore, you'll hear the compelling story of the Battle of Halfway Swamp in Rimini and the skirmish that followed at Poinsett, bringing this chapter of local history to life.
Along the way, enjoy three memorable stops—the Historic Overlook Shelter, Singleton’s Grist Mill, and the Coquina Shelter—where you’ll discover the mill’s role in the American Revolution and how the Civilian Conservation Corps helped preserve these sites. Join us for a day of fresh air, storytelling, and meaningful connection to the past!

Celebrate America’s 250th birthday with VFW Post 3034 and the Elks Lodge during a two-day 4th of July Celebration in Sumter! Join us July 3–4 for free family fun, food, music, and patriotic community celebration. Friday features a live band, BBQ plates, and fellowship, while Saturday includes a car show, DJ music, bouncy house, dunk tank, snow cones, free hot dogs, trophies, and more. Bring the whole family and help us honor 250 years of American freedom!

A three-week historical sewing course that combines fashion, history, museum studies, and practical garment construction.
Create your very own colonial petticoat and short gown in this hands-on historical course. Men will also have the option to sew their own cravat, undershirt, and long vest. Enjoy special guests like Mackenzie Sholtz, owner of Fig Leaf Patterns, as well as staff from the Sumter Museum to bring history to life. Participants will also have free entry to the Sumter Museum's Revolutionary High Tea on Saturday August 22nd at 11am. Have questions?
